Saying goodbye to summer doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to color! When preparing your home for fall, you might think your color palette would be limited to neutrals and earth tones. It’s true that warm beiges, creams, and tans, and rich chocolates, olives, and greys can create a comforting and soothing “base” for your fall home. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate bright bursts of color to create a look that’s completely unique.
That’s the idea tag had in mind with our fall collections. Many of the items in our Autumn Owl and Harvest Home Collections feature bright jewel tones against a background of rich, warm earth tones. This can create a look in your home that’s vibrant, fresh, and exciting, yet still comforting and reminiscent of drinking cider, hay rides, pumpkin patches, falling into a pile of leaves, and all those other festive activities that make fall so fun.
Want to use jewel tones in your home this fall? Here are some tips...
Table Linens
Many of the colors in the room in the first image are neutral. Look at the ecru walls and natural sideboard in the background. However, the room actually looks very vibrant due to the Marseille Orange Tablecloth.
The burnt orange of the tablecloth is striking and creates a good “canvas” for creating your own presentation. Tablecloths are an especially effective way to add a touch of seasonal color to your year-round dinnerware pieces, especially if your everyday dinnerware happens to be white or neutral.

Layering in placemats in fun shapes and colors is also a great idea. Notice how the Fall Flora Napkins, featuring colorful florals atop a white background, create a great visual contrast with the Harvest Leaf Maple Placemats.
Layering with Color
Brown is the dominant color in both of these presentations, but that doesn’t make them boring!
The first image is all about contrast. The white background of the Fall Flora Embroidered Cocktail Napkins and the Fall Flora Luncheon Plates are juxtaposed against the vibrant Harvest Stripe Pleated Runner.
Visual interest is achieved in the second image by layering different shades and tones of brown. The brown of the table, the brown of the Fall Flora Runner, and the brown of the Harvest Leaf Maple Platter are all slightly different, which creates an interesting story.
Then, bright bursts of color are layered in with our Harvest Leaf Maple Appetizer Plates and Harvest Leaf Oak Platter, which coordinate beautifully with the rich jewel-toned reds, greens, and oranges and floral shapes of the runner. Finally, small accents, such as our Harvest Stripe Mosaic Glass Tealight Holders, add some additional warmth and charm, which brings us to our next tip…
Colorful Accents
Sometimes the smallest touches can make the biggest difference.
Vases in rich jewel tones, such as red, violet, green, and olive, can be placed on a table, shelf, or windowsill to add a “pop” of color to an otherwise neutral room. Colored glass placed in a sunny room also shines beautiful colors for a whimsical touch.
Here, our Autumn Owl Hurricanes are being used as, well, hurricanes. But a hurricane can also be used as a great vase, or can be filled with pebbles, acorns, fruit, colored sand, or other interesting materials to create a centerpiece, or to be used as an accent piece.
Faux flowers in bright colors, such as our Potted Gerber Daisies, simply set on an end table or sideboard, add a touch of good cheer and can keep spirits high.
